Chapter 5

“I’ll take the call. You guys look out for her,” Marcus said as he walked to the side and answered the call from Commander Smitt

“Marcus, glad I caught you. I have some information on that last extraction. I didn’t want to call you up too soon, but we may have a situation on our hands.”

“I had a feeling that last operation was more than you let on.”

“No, I gave you everything I had and was told. You got paid, I did too, but it seems John Bennings didn’t give operations everything he had knowledge of, and last night, my contact who was running this operation was nearly killed.”

“What?”

“I know, I know, that’s why I’m calling. There’s some shit to go over. Turns out that contact, Matt Shaw, wasn’t on the up and up with his part in all of this. He used his government connections and authority to get me involved and use you guys to try and stop some guy from getting his hands on Bennings. That guy, London Young, his brother Corban Young was with that group you and your brothers took out. Bottom line, he’s pissed and we believe it was his men who tried to take out Matt Shaw.”

“Are you fucking kidding me? How the hell could there be such a fuck up like this? You never just take on operations unless you know the whole truth and it’s simple, not complicated. If we wanted complicated we would be doing our Black Ops shit in the other fucking countries. Now what about us? Where do we stand in this fucked up situation?”

“You’re fine. Matt doesn’t know I used you guys and even if he did, it’s not like it matters. He’s in enough hot water right now with the higher ups. We’re going to have to lay low and not do any jobs for a while until things clear on this. Supposedly this London Young guy is clean as a whistle and no one can get anything to stick on him. That includes proving he tried to kill Matt.”

“Great, and is Matt now talking to these higher ups and trying to resolve this issue?”

“As we speak. As far as Bennings, they’re hitting a brick wall interrogating him. I’ll keep you updated on any further information as far as they share.”

“You think they won’t share everything with you, even if this comes back to bite us in the ass for doing our fucking jobs?”

“At this point I don’t know and I honestly don’t know who to believe. I’m thinking of pulling back from this, if not getting out of it entirely. There’s plenty of operations we can do on a regular basis, and within the United States. We could take on the simpler things trackers do.”

“Well, we’ve discussed it before but the money was good and that operation wasn’t exactly perfect. Hopefully you can get more information from the higher ups and from Matt.”

“I’m sure I will. I’m not letting this one go, especially with you being shot and the potential it had for complete disaster.
